在我十几岁时，把这张专辑大概听过100多遍。如果你不熟悉MJ的音乐，那么一定要多听几遍，才能听出其中的妙处。>看似粗砺，但实际上是一部精雕细啄的伟大作品。这张专辑中有许多歌是叙事型的。最典型的就是>，不仅叙事，而且叙述的是恐怖、血腥和暴力故事。音乐在隐讳的心跳和阴暗的低沉的短短前奏中开始，MJ毫无预兆地一声尖叫引出了恐怖低沉的节奏。他用短促的带爆发的尾音的嗓音咬牙切齿地叙述了一个简短的暴力故事(...the apartment, left blood stains on the carpet.....you can see she wan unable.....she was Strucked down, it was her doom)。要完全听清歌词绝对是个挑战。MJ把自己的嗓音打造成了一件乐器，在低沉的背景节奏上，这件乐器本身就在叙述故事，就象管弦乐队的表现。歌词成了他的嗓音揉搓的对象。在副歌部分，MJ压低嗓音急促地追问：“Annie, Annie, are you OK?
